ASU and the Latter-day Saint community have long been connected. When ASU first opened in 1886 as the Territorial Normal School, 17 of the first 33 ASU students were Latter-day Saints. G. Homer Durham, a church member and later General Authority, served as ASU's president from 1960 to 1969. This unique connection has continued to grow under Dr. Michael Crow's leadership and the shared commitment to the communities we serve:
ASU is committed to increasing the number of Latter-day Saint students in Arizona who earn a university degree.
